After months of multi-sectoral consultations, editing, revising, meeting and strategizing, the Ministry of Health today launched the National Guidelines for Cancer Management at a breakfast launch in Nairobi.  In attendance were representatives from the Ministry, Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, WHO country rep Dr. Custodia Mandlhate, County executives and directors of health, CEOs of public, private and faith-based hospitals, private sector, civil society and reps from the media.

There was a call for County collaboration to disseminate and implement the Guidelines, a need to look at underlying causes  behind the lifestyle factors affecting cancer, a call for public/private partnership (it was announced that a group of docs have formed a company that will provide a range of needed equipment to hospitals).  Mr Macharia urged the group not to let the efforts go to waste, and that the Guidelines should not collect dust on clinic bookshelves.

A stakeholders meeting will be held later in November to start plans for dissemination and implementation.

There were many KENCO partners and friends who gave of their time, efforts and expertise to make this process happen.  Your efforts are much appreciated!  Kenya became the second country in Africa to develop National Cancer Management Guidelines!
